‘Another Failure of Leadership’: Fox News Hosts Fume That Would-Be Trump Assassin’s Letter Was Made Public
Fox News hosts protested the decision to publicly release a letter written by former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassin on Monday, claiming it could inspire copycats.
After a panel on Outnumbered complained about Trump not receiving enough Secret Service protection in the wake of the two recent attempts on his life, Fox News contributor Guy Benson said, “Listen to that report from South Florida, it’s just so sick. This person was clearly planning for a while to find his spot and act.”
He continued, “We have the motive. This guy wrote in his own hand what he was trying to do. Are you guys at all surprised that they published some of the letter and the $150,000 [bounty he placed on Trump’s life]? Like, I’m fine for some transparency, and let’s make it clear what his motive was, [but] some of the detail, I’m just a little surprised they put that out there.”
“I agree,” reacted Outnumbered co-hosts Emily Compagno and Kayleigh McEnany.
Compagno added, “And I think in the climate of trying to discourage others, I’m frankly shocked that it is so cavalierly, it appears, out there. This needs to be deterred, not encouraged.”
Fox News host Harris Faulkner concluded, “Another failure of leadership though. If there really is an inherent problem with putting that much information out, why isn’t leadership even addressing that immediately?”
A letter written by Ryan Routh, the man charged over the attempted assassination of Trump this month, was revealed in court on Monday and included the statement, “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed.”
Routh also allegedly urged others to “finish the job” and offered a $150,000 bounty to anyone who successfully killed the former president.
