Bernie Sanders Hits Democratic Establishment for Turning Their Nose Up at Joe Rogan: ‘I Got Vilified’ for Going on His Podcast
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) criticized the Democratic Party establishment for neglecting to meet voters where they were on Sunday, explaining he was “vilified” for going on Joe Rogan’s podcast
Sanders sat down for an hour-long conversation with Rogan during the 2020 primary and received backlash. Rogan, who in the past had expressed support for Sanders, offered former President Donald Trump an 11th-hour endorsement just days before Tuesday’s election.
Tuesday, at least one battleground state voter explained Trump had earned his vote when he did not see Vice President Kamala Harris on The Joe Rogan Experience. She declined an invitation to join the show.
As Democrats continue their postmortem on the 2024 race for the White House, shows such as Rogans are being pointed to as a place where voters get their information as traditional media outlets lose their grip on the information flow.
Sanders told CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday’s State of the Union that the Democratic Party must stop writing off alternative voices such as Rogan whose views are not entirely in line with their own.
Bash said:
Joe Rogan, very popular podcaster, he endorsed Donald Trump in the final days of the election four years ago. You went on his podcast. You got a lot of blowback for doing that and for touting that he endorsed you. So, is this the kind of example of Democrats perhaps shunning or vilifying people who don’t totally agree with them?
Sanders replied:
Yeah, I think that’s fair enough. Look, you’re going to have an argument with Rogan, agree with him, disagree with him. But what’s the problem going on in those shows? It’s hard for me to understand that. So I think we’ve got to get – and clearly you have an alternative media out there, a lot of podcasts that millions and millions of viewers – get on the show. disagree with you here. Agree with you there.
I don’t see a problem in doing that. And you’re right, I got vilified by some of the Democratic establishment because I went on Rogan’s show. Now, a lot of other people are doing just that.
