CNN’s Camerota Grills Santorum on Trump Defense: Do You ‘Get Dizzy Living in Upside-Down World?’

CNN contributor Rick Santorum faced a tough series of questions on Friday when he was asked about why President Trump‘s supporters are so easily brushing off his latest controversies with Vladimir Putin.

The conversation began with Alisyn Camerota grilling him on how he could defend Trump’s conduct over the last few days even while acknowledging that it was an “unsettling” week from the president.

Santorum argued that Trump’s supporters expect him to be unpredictable and occasionally off-script with his own administration, so Camerota asked if him if he thought the president said what he really thinks during the press conference in Helsinki.

As they continued to talk about Trump’s original comments blaming the U.S. over Russia’s election-meddling, Santorum turned to the argument that Russia’s actions weren’t responsible for Trump’s victory.

When they got to Trump’s invitation to host Putin at the White House, Camerota asked Santorum why he’s not bothered by that after everything Putin has done.

Since the former Pennsylvania senator reasoned that the Trump Administration’s policies towards Russia have been tougher than what Trump’s words might suggest, Camerota asked Santorum to clarify if he’s really okay with Trump calling the “media the enemy of the people” for their negative coverage on his coziness with Putin.

“Do you ever get dizzy living in upside-down world?” Camerota asked. “I just have to clarify, you seem to have been comfortable standing next to Vladimir Putin and blaming America?”
