CNN’s Harry Enten Breaks Down Trump’s Stunning ‘Worst Day of Polling’: His Numbers Are ‘Underwater Like the Little Mermaid’
CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten broke down the “worst day of polling” of Donald Trump’s presidency on Thursday, highlighting four new surveys showing his approval rating sinking.
Four new polls from CNN, Gallup, Ipsos, and Quinnipiac this week show Trump with a negative net approval rating, causing Enten to declare that the president’s approval is “underwater like The Little Mermaid.” Trump’s overall approval rating was below 50% in each poll, with him grabbing 47%, 45%, 44%, and 45%, respectively.
Enten explained:
The last day and change has been the worst day for Donald Trump during his entire second term in office. What am I talking about here? Take a look at Trump’s net approval rating. CNN, ou see it on this side of the screen, minus five. Gallup, minus six. Ipsos, inus seven. Quinnipiac, minus four. Negative. Negative. Negative. Negative. Underwater. Underwater. Underwater. Underwater. These four polls, all of them tell a consistent story. And that is Trump is on the negative side of the ledger. His net approval is negative. He is underwater like The Little Mermaid.
The negative net approval ratings from Gallup, Ipsos, and Quinnipiac all represent drops from January for Trump.
“Across the four new polls that we have, all of them have Trump a net negative approval rating. And the three in which we have a trend line, we see Donald Trump heading in the wrong direction. Swimming upstream, you might say,” Enten said in reaction to the drops.
Enten argued that it is the economy that is working against Trump despite it being one of his “great strengths” during his first term and a large focus of his presidential campaign.
“One of Donald Trump’s great strengths during his first term, one of Donald Trump’s great strengths during the 2024 campaign was the economy, the idea that Donald Trump could fix the economy. This was one of Donald Trump’s great strengths. Now it’s one of his great weaknesses,” Enten reported.
He noted that Trump’s net approval on the economy has dropped eight points since February 2017 in Ipsos polling, and it’s also dropped four points in Quinnipiac data.
