So, you’ve likely already heard about the eight-minute video of outtakes from a Lawrence O’Donnell broadcast that was leaked to Mediaite earlier this week. The clip is completely bonkers, showing O’Donnell just absolutely losing it with the control room over technical difficulties. “STOP THE HAMMERING” was all over the web soon after the post went up.
Thus, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that a late-night comedy show would find material there, and that is exactly what The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert did this evening.
After playing some of the juiciest bits from the video and tossing out some jokes, Colbert explained that he had an on-set meltdown of his own recently and decided to release the clip in “solidarity with Lawrence O’Donnell,” as well as to get ahead of the whole story.
During Colbert’s “outtakes,” the issues revolved around Christmas carols in his earpiece and a drilling sound somewhere nearby.
“Stop that drilling!” Colbert shouted. “Stop the drilling! I’ll stop the drilling myself! Stop the drilling. I got your power toll right here!”
