Daily Show Roasts Obama Chumming It Up With Trump at Carter Funeral: ‘Weird’ To Go From ‘This Guy Is Future Hitler’ to ‘Cool Story, Future Hitler!’

The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic jabbed former President Barack Obama for having the most “chemistry” with President-elect Donald Trump at late President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

A number of moments out of Carter’s Thursday funeral were widely discussed on social media from presidents snubbing one another to friendly belly taps to Obama and Trump seemingly chumming it up. The two were seat next to each other and they appeared to be engaging in a friendly conversation with Obama even laughing at a few points.

On Thursday’s The Daily Show, Lydic highlighted how awkward the seating chart really was, pointing out that Trump has essentially personally insulted every single person that was seated around him, including Obama.

“It’s a seating chart so awkward; it probably had them asking if there was any extra room in that coffin,” she said.

Lydic noted there was “one surprising moment of chemistry” — and it was between Obama and Trump.

“Ooooooooh, someone’s trying to make Elon jealous! It’s a little weird for Obama though, right? To go from ‘this guy is future Hitler’ to ‘oh, man, cool story, future Hitler!'” she joked.

Lydic also showed a much-discussed clip of Vice President Kamala Harris looking back at Obama and Trump and their friendly conversation.

“I don’t know if that funeral music was for Carter or for her. Kamala did the look that I do when someone behind me at the movie theater is talking,” she said.

The vice president, Lydic joked, was clearly “not happy” with the exchange going on behind her.

“She did not seem happy to be sitting that close to Donald Trump,” the comedian said. “She basically spent the rest of the day flipping through that funeral program like she was going to find 44 electoral votes in it.”
