Dem Hank Johnson Asks Kirstjen Nielsen if She Thinks ‘Illegal Immigrants’ Are ‘Human or Sub-Human’
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen testified before the House Judiciary Committee, and while Nielsen continued to deny the existence of the family separation policy that Trump ended under tremendous public pressure, she did generously allow that “illegal immigrants are humans.”
That surreal declaration came in response to questioning by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), who asked Nielsen “Do you view those you call ‘illegal aliens’ to be human or subhuman?”
“Illegal aliens are human, sir,” Nielsen replied, using the term for undocumented immigrants that is considered a slur by many immigrants and their allies.
Johnson went on to ask Nielsen if she believed that “DHS was prepared to implement your family separation policy when it went into effect?”
A recent Department of Homeland Security Inspector General’s report showed that they were not.
“Sir we never had a policy for family separation,” Nielsen insisted, then described that policy in detail. “What we did do was, we applied the law equally to anybody broke it, and if you were any illegal crosser of the Southwest border we need to decide to become referred you for prosecution.”
As recently as (checks notes) earlier this week, Donald Trump acknowledged and praised the family separation policy that Nielsen still claims did not exist.
