In a continuation of a pattern of incidents during the 2008 presidential campaign, President Obama‘s Los Angeles campaign office was vandalized overnight. According to reports, the office was shot at with a BB gun, and an unknown object was thrown through one of the windows. With the President scheduled to visit Los Angeles in just a few days, a Secret Service spokesman told Mediaite that they’re “aware of the incident,” and that they will be “monitoring” the LAPD’s investigation.
The office in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles was shot repeatedly with a BB gun, according to reports, and an unknown object was thrown through a window. The office was unoccupied at the time.
With the President set to visit the area in a few days, a Secret Service spokesman told Mediaite, this morning, “We’re aware of it. The LAPD is continuing to investigate this incident, and we will monitor that investigation.”
A source within the Obama campaign confirmed the incident, but declined to comment further.
The attack on this campaign office is nothing new, unfortunately. During the 2008 presidential campaign, there was a rash of anti-Obama vandalism, but the Obama team made a conscious decision to downplay those incidents to avoid escalation. In 2010, a campaign of vandalism also attended the passage of President Obama’s health care reform law.
Here’s a report on the incident, from NBC Washington, DC affiliate WRC-DC:
