Fox Anchor Maria Bartiromo Promotes Trump Assassination Conspiracy Theory Smearing Law Enforcement

After Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) claimed that President Joe Biden was “planning to assassinate” former President Donald Trump based on FBI documents related to the classified documents raid on Mar-a-Lago, Trump seized the moment to use it as campaign fodder — and Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo treated it as if it was news.

During her Wednesday broadcast, Bartiromo led an entire segment based on the false claims by Greene and Trump, twisting the FBI statement on its standard raid procedures to make it seem like they planned to storm the ex-president’s property and shoot on sight. Trump was not present at the raid, which the FBI knew ahead of time. After the outrage spread from Greene to Trump himself, the FBI was forced to provide context to the use of deadly force, which is standard protocol in search warrants.

Nevertheless, even while including the FBI statement, Bartiromo used the opportunity to attack law enforcement and suggest Biden tried to have Trump killed:

This is so extraordinary. Over and over again, we see that the Democrats charge the Republicans with things that they are actually doing, and they have, this happens over and over again. Now the FBI and the Democrats keep saying things like Trump is a threat to democracy, but Biden is authorizing deadly force against his political opponent? And then you’ve got FBI, the former director, Jim Comey, back on television now with a new warning of what he thinks a second Trump term would look like.

She played a clip of Comey on MSNBC, telling host Alex Wagner that a second Trump term would have “serious” implications for “the Justice Department and the FBI, because Trump is coming for those institutions. He knows their power, and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them.” Then she played another clip from 2018 of Comey describing how he sent FBI agents into Trump’s White House. So she went after Comey:

Yeah, let’s just send a couple of [FBI agents] over to set General Michael Flynn up to commit perjury, because he wasn’t told that he needed a lawyer there, and they were going to be questioning him about these things. And let’s just pursue this charge of Trump colluded with Russia and let it go viral across the world and rip the country apart. And this is the guy who’s telling us that there are going to be consequences for the FBI if Trump gets back in? Forgive us if we don’t believe you.

Bartiromo wasn’t the only voice on Fox News to push the assassination conspiracy theory. Jesse Watters ran with it on Tuesday night and Fox & Friends First ran with it Wednesday morning.
