Fox News Panel Erupts Over Roseanne Cancellation: Her Tweet Was ‘Free Speech’

In what Harris Faulkner characterized on Outnumbered as a “racist type of conversation,” Roseanne Barr called former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett the product if the “Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes had a baby.” As a result, the show that bears Barr’s name was cancelled Tuesday afternoon, a move that divided the panel on Fox News.

“Obviously that is racist to the nth degree,” Democratic strategist Jessica Tarlov said. “It’s something that you don’t expect someone in the public eye like this to do.”

“We live in a politically correct world right now,” Republican strategist Noelle Nikpour replied. “We live in a world where it’s just not plain not nice… to say –”

“It’s not political correctness, it’s racism,” Tarlov interrupted adamantly.

“Let her finish,” Faulkner said.

“Let’s look at what this was and what she said,” Nikpour continued. “The tweet was not nice. It was ugly. It was demeaning. It was gross. And let’s just leave it at that.”

“Why? Why leave it at that?” asked an indignant Tarlov.

“It’s just mean-spirited, said Nikpour. “Can it not be mean-spirited?”

“That is what racism is implicitly, but it’s important to say racism,” Tarlov replied. “She’s also posted pictures with herself before with a Hitler mustache.”

“I don’t understand it to be anything other than free speech,” Faulkner offered. “It is extremely offensive but it is just that. So she says in one of her tweets, there were three rapid fire today, it was a joke. It was a miscalculated joke.”

“And she is a comedian. She has a wicked, twisted sense of humor,” Nikpour added. “Everybody knows her to be a little raunchy, a little rough…. She knows what she is doing.”

Meanwhile, Faulkner wrapped the segment by saying that Roseanne “has been cancelled by ABC after she put out a racist tweet.”
