GOP Lawmaker Who Backed Biden Probe Tells Morning Joe He Can’t Vote For Impeachment
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY),who voted for the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, told Morning Joe on Thursday that he would not support a House floor impeachment vote.
As the impeachment inquiry into Biden continues to drag on, some Republican lawmakers — including Lawler — are starting to waver on supporting a House vote impeaching the commander-in-chief due to a lack of concrete evidence of wrongdoing.
Republicans have accused Biden of profiting from his family’s foreign business deals while serving as a vice president under former President Barack Obama.
Lawler told Morning Joe during a Thursday interview that he does not believe there is “sufficient evidence” to impeachment Biden. Due to the Republican majority being slim in the House, Lawler is an essential vote if Republicans were to impeach the president.
The reason I supported the impeachment inquiry was because the white House was refusing to cooperate with certain subpoenas. As I’ve said repeatedly, I did not believe there was sufficient evidence for an impeachment. But that obviously, Congress has oversight responsibility, and should, continue down that road. However, that does not mean that we should go towards impeachment. I have yet to see, any evidence that would warrant, the rise to impeachment.
