‘He Has No Idea What He’s Talking About’: Dan Goldman Flames Comer’s Biden Probe as ‘A House of Cards’

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) appeared on Friday’s edition of The Lead shortly after an appearance by Rep. James Comer (R-KY) on the program.

As chair of the House Oversight Committee, Comer has been leading an investigation into the Biden family, which he alleges reaped millions of dollars stemming from the overseas business dealings of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. Comer has yet to furnish evidence the Bidens committed crimes.

One particularly explosive allegation Republicans have lobbed is that as vice president, Joe Biden threatened to withhold aid from the Ukrainian government if it did not fire a prosecutor who was investigating Burisma, an energy company on whose board Hunter Biden sat. However, this claim has been debunked. Adhering to the Obama administration’s policy at the time, Biden urged the prosecutor’s termination for not prosecuting corruption.

Comer alleged to Tapper that by indicting Hunter Biden on nine federal tax counts on Thursday, the Department of Justice is actually trying “to protect” the president’s son.

After welcoming Goldman – a former federal prosecutor – to the show, Tapper told the lawmaker he “couldn’t make much sense of” Comer’s claim.

“I think through the whole interview, what’s up is down and what’s down is up for Chairman Comer,” Goldman replied, before. “The only reason I think Hunter Biden was prosecuted and charged with the crimes – which almost are never charged… and would be settled civilly for the tax charges – is because of Chairman Comer and House Republicans’ undue and improper interference in an ongoing criminal investigation.”

Goldman went on to say Comer is out of his element.

“Chairman Comer may be a great farmer, Jake, but he has no idea what he’s talking about with criminal law,” he said. “There is nothing remotely close to a [Foreign Agent Registration Act] violation, to money laundering. I don’t think he knows what they are, and certainly doesn’t understand what would be required by that.”

Goldman noted Comer’s invocation of the Ukrainian prosecutor.

“That has been proven up, down, left, right, every single which way to be completely bogus,” he said.

“This is a house of cards with no evidence and Chairman Comer just proved that to you.”
