‘Hear For Yourself’: MSNBC Host Defends Network’s Decision To Air Trump’s ‘Ugly’ MSG Rally Speech
MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin defended his network’s decision to air 45-minutes of former President Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally speech uninterrupted.
At the rally, Trump’s speech focused heavily on his planned deportation policy and described Election Day as a “liberation day” from immigrant “occupation” and, again, described Democrats as the “enemy from within.”
Mohyeldin, whose show was on air live when Trump took to the stage, paused his commentary to broadcast the speech. He argued to viewers that the aim was not to “platform [Trump’s] policies” but rather the “opposite.”
We have been listening to Donald Trump speak for about 45 minutes or so at Madison Square Garden. A lot of violent rhetoric there about migrants, rambling at his rally as he normally does. Again, for our viewers who have been watching this, perhaps some questions as to why we would be airing Donald Trump at this moment in the race.
It is not something we do very often or frequently on this network. We did want to play for our viewers Trump’s remarks, not to platform his policies, but rather the opposite, so you, the viewers and the voters in this country, can hear for yourself the vision that Donald Trump and all of his speakers today have outlined if he is given a second term as president in this country. There is a lot of dangerous language, a lot of ugly rhetoric that we are going to unpack over the course of our conversation this hour.
