Hillary Clinton Defends Opposition to Israel Ceasefire: They Had One and ‘Hamas Chose to Break It’

Hillary Clinton stood firm on her opposition to a ceasefire in Israel in an appearance on The View, citing her foreign policy experience and Hamas’ track record.

The former secretary of state joined the talk show Wednesday, where the conversation eventually arrived at the debate over a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip amid Israel’s counteroffensive against Hamas. Clinton led her thoughts on the subject with a reminder that she facilitated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in 2012, and Hamas violated that truce with “their barbaric assault on peaceful civilians” on October 7.

“There was a ceasefire,” she summarized. “It did not hold because Hamas chose to break it.”

Clinton continued by arguing that the terror organization has “consistently” broken ceasefire agreements in the past, and Israel has the right to its self-defense. While she implored Israel to obey the laws of war and limit civilian casualties, Clinton maintained her position that a ceasefire would give Hamas a chance to recover and reposition themselves against Israel.

Clinton’s opposition to a ceasefire in Israel reflects the views of the Biden administration, and she also agreed with the White House that humanitarian pauses should be “on the table” to help civilians caught in the conflict.

“But a ceasefire done prematurely benefits those who do not abide by any laws, by any rules, by any human character value about the value of life,” she said.
