Hillary Clinton Slams Trump’s ‘Outright Lie’ on Border Policy: It’s a ‘Moral and Humanitarian Crisis’
Hillary Clinton gave a speech today and joined a number of other first ladies in condemning the Trump administration for its policy of separating migrant children from their parents at the U.S. southern border.
President Donald Trump has been defending his separation policy throughout the day, repeatedly pushing his false claim that the breakups are happening because of a nonexistent law by Congressional Democrats. The separations have drawn bipartisan condemnation, and now, the former Democratic presidential candidate is calling out the White House for saying the current policy is mandated by the law.
“This is not happening because of the ‘Democrats’ law,’ as the White House has claimed. Separating families is not mandated by law at all,” Clinton said. “That is an outright lie and it’s incumbent on all of us, journalists and citizens alike, to call it just that.”
Clinton goes on to call the border situation a “moral and humanitarian crisis” that should outrage “every human being with a sense of compassion and decency.” As she gave a shout-out to Laura Bush for her rebuke of the separation policy, Clinton condemned Trump for his global fear-mongering and bashed the members of his administration who have used the Bible to justify the country’s treatment of migrant children.
“Those who selectively use the Bible to justify this cruelty are ignoring a central tenet of Christianity. I went to a lot of years of Sunday school. I even taught it from time to time. I’ve studied the Bible, both the Old and the New Testament, and what is being done using the name of religion is contrary to everything I was ever taught. Jesus said, ‘suffer the little children unto me.’ He did not say, let the children suffer.”
