James Carville Dumps Cold Water on AOC, Bernie Tour After Going off on Progressives: ‘When You Beat a Republican, Come Back and See Me!’

James Carville doesn’t see the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) as all that helpful to Democrats and suggested the progressive lawmakers are part of the group of liberals he’s recommending leave the party.

Carville joined NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Wednesday following a Politicon video where the longtime Democratic strategist suggested progressive Democrats more concerned with “pronoun politics” spin themselves off into their own coalition, suggesting they run against fellow Democrats and hurt their own party.

“Let me make a point about Bernie and AOC. Bernie’s run for president twice. He’s lost twice. AOC and her kind, and this guy, David Hogg, they want to run against other Democrats. They don’t run against Republicans. When you beat a Republican, come back and see me, and I will be impressed!” Carville said.

Carville also called DNC vice chair David Hogg a “contemptible little twerp” in the same interview.

The once advisor to former President Bill Clinton noted it’s impressive Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are drawing large crowds to protest President Donald Trump’s agenda, but he blasted the lawmakers for acting like Democrats are a bigger problem than Republicans.

“All they want to do, and all this guy Hogg wants to do, is they want to beat — like, Democrats are not the problem right now. We’re not holding an innocent person in El Salvadoran in jail. We are not starting an ill-thought-out, idiotic trade war. And yet they’re spending all their time — a lot of their time, I’ll be fair to Bernie and AC, they do attack Trump — but they never run against Republicans,” he said.

Carville said Sanders’s past losses should tell him something about his standing in the party.

“When Bernie ran twice as a Democrat, he lost and he lost by a lot,” he said. “So maybe the Democratic party is trying to tell you something. You lose twice, there’s probably a message in there.”
