John Oliver Explains FCC’s Net Neutrality Ruling to Confused Republicans

Last season, John Oliver successfully got thousands of viewers to visit the FCC’s website and demand net neutrality protection, causing the comments section of the site to crash in the process. So he had reason to celebrate this week after the FCC finally voted to keep the internet open.
Oliver was not quite willing to take back his description of FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler as a “dingo babysitter,” saying, “You are dingo. It’s just that in this one instance, you did not eat the baby.”
The host also took on the (mostly) Republican members of Congress who have opposed the FCC ruling, such as Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), who described net neutrality as the idea that “the latest cat video is of equal importance to a teleconference consultation to a heart patient.”
“You are misunderstanding what net neutrality is,” Oliver told the critics. “Cat videos are part of the point.” As he explained it, the policy is about keeping internet service providers from “picking a choosing whose voices get heard, ensuring that the internet remains a democratic space for all messages.” And that goes for cat videos, too.”
