Kayleigh McEnany Accuses Brennan of Being Part of Anti-Trump Conspiracy
Standing by President Donald Trump‘s decision to revoke John Brennan‘s security clearance, Republican National Committee spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany railed against the former CIA director whom she accused of taking part in a conspiracy to undermine the president.
During an appearance on Fox Business Thursday evening, McEnany told host Lisa Kennedy that Brennan couldn’t be trusted, arguing that the president’s move had nothing to do with political vengeance.
“John Brennan is a questionable actor to say the least. That’s putting it in a very light and optimistic fashion,” she said. “This guy has a history of serial lying.”
But commentator Juan Williams felt the president was making a point of punishing Brennan for his criticism, calling it “something an autocrat or a dictator would do.”
“You are revoking this guy’s clearance at this time either to get away from discussions about Omarosa and all of her attacks on the president or two to punish your political opponents,” Williams — a Fox News analyst — said. “John Brennan like every American including Kennedy has a right to be critical and ask tough questions.”
For Williams, the message was clear: “Shut up. Nobody is supposed to criticize the president.”
Shortly after losing his clearance, Brennan wrote in a New York Times op-ed that “Trump’s claims of no collusion are hogwash.”
Brennan’s words clearly irked McEnany.
“My gut tells me this is a massive distraction effort,” the RNC spox said. “It’s to distract from the massive conspiracy that was going on at the top intel community using the [Steele] dossier to spy on the Trump campaign, to plant human sources in the Trump campaign. He’s detracting from his misdeeds.”
