Secretary of State John Kerry did not appreciate State of the Union host Candy Crowley’s characterization Sunday morning of the U.S. as “comfortable with Israel actions thus far” in its campaign against Hamas, adding that Hamas was intentionally embedding its weapons within civilian areas to increase the death toll and elicit scrutiny just like hers.
“Civilians have been warned to move well ahead of time,” Kerry said. “The fact is, Hamas uses civilians as shields and they fire from a home and draw the fire into the home, precisely to elicit the kind of questions you just asked.”
This is the exact point Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made on CNN a few minutes later, when he accused Hamas of trying to create “telegenically dead Palestinians.”
