‘Leave It Alone’ James Carville Advises Dems To Move On From Talking About Jan 6 and 2020 Election
Some Democrats are too busy living in the past, according to Democratic strategist James Carville.
Carville joined Morning Joe on Wednesday, along with Carville: Winning Is Everything! director Matt Tyrnauer. As co-host Mika Brzezinski railed against former President Donald Trump supporters as a group that won’t accept “facts,” Carville recommended Democrats push themselves into the present and “sell harder.”
Instead of talking about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot or the 2020 presidential election, Carville argued, Democrats should be blasting Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance for claiming Trump saved Obamacare when repealing the law was a cornerstone to the former president’s campaign agenda. Carville also pushed for former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to be on the campaign trail more, helping to sell the party’s ticket and call out the GOP ticket for more recent actions and statements.
“They need to sell harder. We need to really sell because you’ve got all of this disinformation, you’re correct, and they’ve got to selectively pick out what it is that they want to talk about. We’ve talked about January 6th ad infinitum, ad nauseam,” he said. “We’ve been talking about who won the election. Leave it alone. Bo to JD Vance’s massive lie on health care. Have Bill Clinton go do actualities in every market, in every swing state. Have Obama come out and say, how dare he say this about our healthcare plan.”
Carville added that he believes Republicans like Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris is helping to win over votes.
“I think the Liz Cheney, the Dick Cheney stuff, all these national security people coming out, I think that helps,” he said. “I really do.”
