Lou Dobbs Backs Trump’s Remarks on Hurricane Maria Death Toll: ‘An Amazing Tortured Inflation’

President Donald Trump‘s false claim that Democrats jacked up the Hurricane Maria death toll for political aims has been drawing backlash from both sides of the aisle, but one of his friends in the media has come to his defense.

In a fiery Thursday night monologue, Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs painted Trump as the truth teller, arguing he displayed courage in standing up to the left when it came to his comments on the devastation of Puerto Rico.

Dobbs contended that “only President Trump has had the guts to call out the Dems and national left wing media types, who’ve blindly accepted an amazing tortured inflation of the death toll, almost 50 times higher than the original count, and with scant evidence to support any of it.”

Earlier in the day, Trump sparked outrage on Twitter after he wrote that “3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico,” adding that the left raised the toll “in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico.”

While that didn’t sit well even with members of the GOP like Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who distanced himself from the president following the remarks, saying he disagreed, Dobbs was firm in his support.

“How does that count go from dozens in the days after the storm to almost 3,000 nearly a year later?” he asked. “It involves as many academicians as humanly possible in the effort, and then you watch the entire exercise become a farce.”

Trump later retweeted Dobbs’ take on the matter, which blasted it as an attempt “to discredit his administration.”
