Maher Weighs In on His ‘Friend’ Roseanne’s Racist Tweet: ‘Abhorrent and Presidential’
On Friday night, Bill Maher kicked off his monologue by addressing the controversies surrounding fellow comedians Roseanne Barr and Samantha Bee.
Maher began by saying it was a tough week for “the line,” the one that comedians “sometimes cross.”
“Half the country wants Roseanne to go way forever, half the country wants Samantha Bee to go away forever… so much for wanting more female voices in television,” Maher quipped.
The Real Time host then addressed his pal Roseanne’s tweets, which he described as “abhorrent” and “bordering on presidential.”
“I don’t have a decoder ring. I have no f**king clue what you wing nuts in your bubble are talking about!” Maher told his viewers. “Now, my friend Roseanne had admitted that she had been admitted to a mental institution. She has said she has multiple personalities and unfortunately, one of them is quite a racist.”
Maher said it’s “not a mystery” how a “person with mental illness” like Roseanne could be taken in “by a party that has lost its mind.” He also invoked former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, who took the high road by calling the ordeal a “teachable moment.”
“What a day for Trump supporters,” Maher reacted. “First they lose their favorite show… and they get threatened with learning!”
He then blasted the “whiny little b*tch” President Trump for “making it about him” when he went after Disney CEO Bob Iger for all the attacks ABC has made against him.
“This guy could tweet about the Hawaii Volcano and he’d make it about him,” Maher said. “‘I’m orange and gassy! Where’s my headline?!?'”
Maher also went after the “snowflakes on the right” for “dragging him into this” calling on his own firing for comparing Trump to an orangutan. So in his latest installment of “Explaining Jokes to Idiots,” Maher explained that Trump “is an orangutan” and he only said so to refute Trump’s birtherism.
