Mattis Confirms ‘We’ve Been Putting Together Some Options’ for Trump on Military Parade

Defense Secretary James Mattis gave a nod on Wednesday to the recent reports saying that President Trump wants a grand military parade in Washington D.C.

Previous indications suggested that Mattis was one of the top-ranking officials Trump spoke to about his idea for honoring and showing off the splendor of the military. The proposal has drawn a fair bit of scrutiny, mostly from critics who have noted that this kind of parade would cost a ton of money.

Mattis joined Sarah Huckabee Sanders for her White House Press Briefing today, and he was asked about how they’ve accounted for the parade’s price tag. Mattis noted that Trump has an “affection for the military,” and he said his team has been “putting together some options” for the White House to review.

Later in the briefing, Sanders had this to say about the parade’s future:

“Nothing has been decided or locked in stone. This is in the early discussion phases, and it’s something the president is looking at, not just a way that he can, but that the entire country can come together and show support and honor our military.”
