Michael Cohen Lawyer Lanny Davis: Client Considers Trump a ‘Danger to Our Country’

Michael Cohen‘s lawyer Lanny Davis said on CNN Wednesday night that his client decided to turn on Donald Trump when he realized the president was a “danger” to the United States.

Davis appeared on CNN Tonight, and explained to Don Lemon what led Cohen to “change his mind about Donald Trump.”

“The only way to put it — it may sound a little bit syrupy — was patriotism and love of country, caused him to to recognize the danger of this particular president, his lack of suitability to be president of the United States.”

That caused Cohen, according to Davis, to “hit the reset button on his life and his previous loyalty to such a man that he considered, especially after Helsinki, to be a danger to our country as president of the United States.”

Trump was widely panned for publicly kowtowing to Russian President Vladimir Putin at their summit in Helsinki, Finland.

When Lemon brought up Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani‘s criticisms of Cohen, Davis ripped the former New York mayor, saying he “doesn’t know the difference between a lie and a fact.”

He went on to discuss Cohen’s claims that Trump directed him to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election.

“There is no doubt that Donald Trump committed a crime, and more than that, a cover-up of the crime, because he did not want to write the check to Stormy Daniels, which Mr. Giuliani admitted he directed Mr. Cohen to do,” Davis said. “Why didn’t Donald Trump write the check himself? Because he covered up what he knew was wrongdoing.”

Later in the interview, Davis reiterated his claim from earlier Tuesday night on MSNBC that Cohen had information relevant to Trump-Russia investigation to tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
