Obama Drinks Beer, Answers Softball Questions in Super Bowl Pre-Interview

President Barack Obama hosted NBC’s Savannah Guthrie in the White House kitchen to taste his home brews and answer some softball questions about his tone toward Republicans in the recent State of the Union address.

Obama assured Guthrie that he did not do “an endzone dance” after the Democrats’ severe losses in the primaries, but rather celebrated a recovering economy, though he stressed that his last two years would be focused on a more even distribution of the economic benefits.

“You laid out a bunch of proposals that you know cannot get through this Congress,” Guthrie asked. “Isn’t that counterproductive?”

“I disagree with that,” Obama said. “My job is to present the right ideas. If the Republicans think they have better ideas, then they should present them. But my job is not to trim my sails and not tell the American people what we should be doing, pretending somehow that we don’t need better roads or more affordable college.”

Guthrie then gave some of those either/or questions that define empty political performance. “Chips or guac, offense or defense,” etc. The full interview, which will apparently address ISIS and other subjects, will air on the Today show tomorrow.
