Outnumbered Debate on Trump Investigations Gets Intense: If Washington Elites Don’t ‘Anoint You,’ They’ll ‘Destroy You’
Things got passionate on Outnumbered on Friday as the panel discussed all of the legal bombshells and problematic developments for President Trump throughout the week.
The conversation began with the reports of immunity for Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg, which comes after National Enquirer‘s David Pecker backed up Michael Cohen‘s allegation that Trump was involved in Cohen’s campaign finance law-violating hush money plots. Juan Williams was today’s #OneLuckyGuy, and he started by saying these bombshells will naturally fire up Trump’s critics ahead of the election, even if it might also cause an uptick of impeachment calls from anti-Trump diehards.
As the chat continued, Rachel Campos-Duffy argued that since Robert Mueller has yet to prove the Trump-Russia collusion theory, people will turn out to support the president against an “unfair” investigation. Daren McDowell acknowledged that recent events have been problematic for Trump and his business empire, though she also made a point of asking for an investigation into Hillary Clinton‘s campaign’s connection to the Fusion GPS dossier.
Williams got back in the conversation eventually, noting Trump’s legal complications come from Cohen’s evidence showing that he directed these hush money schemes and lied about them to avoid disclosure to the FEC.
“He isn’t on tape saying [that],” Harris Faulkner said, though Williams corrected her by pointing to Cohen’s secretly-recorded audio of his boss.
As they discussed whether it was an FEC violation, McDowell screamed “They’re typically treated as civil not criminal cases! That’s the abomination in all this!” McDowell connected this with Democratic defenses for Bill Clinton, and Campos-Duffy followed up by complaining about Hillary Clinton getting a pass while Trump doesn’t.
“The message to the American people is if you’re an outsider, if you’re somebody who wants to run for president and the political class did not annoint you, the insiders, the elites in Washington, the political class will destroy you.”
