Stormy Daniels’ Lawyer Goes on Today: ‘No Question the President Knew’ About Cohen’s Payoff

Stormy Daniels‘ lawyer joined the Today show on Wednesday in order to take questions about the porn star’s upcoming lawsuit against President Trump in connection with their past affair.

Daniels, who was paid for her silence by Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, has determined that her hush agreement with the president is invalid because Trump never signed it himself. Daniels’ representative, Michael Avenatti, told Savannah Guthrie that she’s ready to tell her story, and is suing in order to counteract the misinformation Cohen and others have put out about the affair with Trump.

Avenatti was very doubtful that Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 out of his own personal funds, with no connection to the president. When asked if Trump knew about Cohen’s payoff, he answered “there’s no question the president knew about it at the time.”

“The idea that an attorney would go off on his own, without his client’s knowledge and engage in this type of negotiation and enter into this type of agreement quite honestly is ludicrous,” Avenatti said. “Mr. Trump did not sign. We believe that that was so that he could later claim deniability, and therefore, from a legal perspective, we believe she’s free to talk.”

Avenatti continued to say that the lack of Trump’s signature for the NDA means Daniels is absolved from her previous legal obligations. When asked if Daniels is looking to sell her story, the attorney said “No, she’s looking to disclose the truth about what happened.”

Guthrie also directly asked Avenatti if Trump had sex with Daniels, which the lawyer simply replied, “yes.”
