Trump Reportedly Pressured John Kelly, Don McGahn to Approve Ivanka’s Security Clearance

President Donald Trump reportedly angered White House officials after he trying to convince John Kelly and Don McGahn to approve his daughter Ivanka Trump‘s security clearance, according to a new report from CNN.

The CNN story was released just days after the Washington Post reported Trump directed his former chief of staff Kelly and White House counsel McGahn to approve his son-in-law Jared Kushner‘s clearance. The two officials reportedly resisted Trump’s pressure to pass the security clearance of his two relatives, but ultimately, Trump personally authorized Ivanka and Jared’s clearances against the advice of his staff.

This news comes after Ivanka claimed last month that Trump had “no involvement” in the approval of her and her husband’s clearances. One source CNN spoke to claimed Ivanka “did not seek, nor have, outside counsel involved in her process as no issues were ever raised,” while another person with knowledge of the matter alleged the first-daughter was informed of her clearance approval by an official, meaning she may not have known about her father’s involvement.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders responded to the CNN story by stating the White House won’t “comment on security clearances.”

“We cannot respond to every anonymous source,” Sanders added.
