Trump Gets One Last Dig In at Ron DeSantis After Former Rival Drops Out and Endorses Him
Former President Donald Trump revealed to Fox News Host Lawrence Jones that it was “probably unlikely” that Ron DeSantis would become his Vice President or serve in his cabinet.
Jones sat with Trump Sunday evening hours after the Florida Governor had announced the suspension of his presidential campaign, just two days before the New Hampshire primary, where recent polling revealed he had diminishing chances for winning any delegates. A portion of the video aired during the 6 AM hour of Fox & Friends, which Jones co-hosts.
Jones seemed clear in his mission of trying to mend fences between DeSantis and Trump, asking, “Is there a moment where y’all can come back together because you really were friends before? Is that possible?”
Trump repeated that he endorsed DeSantis when he ran for governor even though he “didn’t know him as well as you might think,” and appeared to reiterate his frustration that DeSantis challenged him for the Republican nomination.”
“So that’s water on the bridge now,” Jones cued the former president, to which Trump affirmed, “Totally, as far as I’m concerned. Look, he endorsed me. You know, he endorsed me. And we have policies very similar. Actually, I think those people will all come to me.”
“Since you said water on the bridge, he can be vice president or serve in your cabinet?” Jones pressed. “He hasn’t asked for any of those. Is there a possibility of the joining of forces?”
“Well, it’s probably unlikely, but, you know, I have to be honest, is everything’s a possibility, but I think it’s highly unlikely,” Trump replied. “I have a lot of great people, and I have great people that have been with me right from the beginning.”
Coming out of the interview, Jones reiterated that Trump said that it was “water under the bridge.” To be clear, Trump didn’t say those words; he just agreed with the forceful cue by the Fox & Friends co-host, who seemed eager to make peace.
