Tucker Carlson Battles Fmr Obama Advisor: Why’s Russia a ‘More Imminent Threat’ Than Mexico?
On Friday night, Tucker Carlson had a heated debate with a former Obama State Department official about President Trump‘s recent rhetoric of Russia.
Earlier on Friday, Trump had suggested welcoming Russia back into the G-7 Summit, which received a ton of blowback from his critics.
In response, Carlson argued that it’s “better to be at the table talking than not to be” and that the U.S. is “very close” to being at war with Russia and asked David Tafuri “why we wouldn’t want to defuse that?”
Tafuri then criticized the president for choosing a “strange platform” like the G-7 summit to criticize allies like Canada and France while expressing support for Russia.
“Why wouldn’t you want to do everything you could to diffuse armed conflict with a nuclear-armed Russia?” Carlson continued on. “But liberals want conflict with a nuclear-armed Russia. Why?”
Tafuri responded by advocating for a “carrot and a stick” approach to punish Russia and pointed out how Trump was “dragged” into placing sanctions.
But then the Fox News host tied Russia to our southern neighbor.
“Why is Russia a greater and a more imminent threat to us than Mexico?” Carlson asked. “Are they killing tens of thousands of Americans with fentanyl. Have they flood our country with 20 thousand- 20 million rather illegal aliens?”
His guest answered by saying Russia trying to “interfere in our democracy.”
“Really? Because Mexico is encouraging to invade our country and a lot of them are trying to vote,” Carlson shot back. “And now, people are saying that they need to be naturalized and allowed to vote, speaking of affecting our democracy. Nothing affects democracy more than demographic change. So Russia is still a bigger threat to Mexico because why?”
“These are different types of threats,” Tafuri said. “There are people who come from Mexico and some of the illegal immigration is a threat to the U.S. And the drug cartels in Mexico are a threat. The Mexican government is not a threat. The Mexican government’s policies are not a threat. Whereas Putin, who is an authoritarian dictator who is doing everything he can to stop American influence around the world, to stop American support for democracies around the world and to protect our own democracy, he’s a threat to all of those things which it used to be all Americans agreed that was important.”
