Veteran broadcaster Carol Vorderman turned down an unexpected offer from GB News, after the network approached her following her departure from the BBC.
The 62-year-old was compelled to leave the BBC last month after violating new social media guidelines in the wake of her outspoken criticism of the Conservative government.
GB News’ chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos then reportedly reached out to Vorderman directly, via text, with an invitation to meet. This offer was met with silence from Vorderman’s end.
A source close to Vorderman told the Mirror: “Carol wouldn’t touch that channel with a barge-pole.”
This sentiment echoes the perplexity surrounding GB News’ decision to court Vorderman, given the station’s history of personal on-air criticisms against her. In one recent incident GB News host Patrick Christys had to intervene and apologise after a guest made inappropriate remarks about Vorderman’s appearance while on air.
Vorderman is a household name, known for her long-standing role on game show Countdown and her work with BBC Radio Wales.
