Pro-Palestine Activists Spray Labour HQ With Red Paint In Gaza Protest
Pro-Palestine activists doused the Labour Party’s South London headquarters in red paint on Monday in protest at the party’s continued support for arms sales to Israel.
The demonstration was shared online by Youth Demand late afternoon.
The post read: “Labour has blood on their hands. They are complicit in the murder of Palestinians, and millions of people around the world, as they continue to drive genocide.”
“Young people will not stand by and watch Keir Starmer allow mass murder by selling weapons to Israel and allowing the development of new oil and gas,” said Chris Faulkner, a member of Youth Demand and an earth sciences student. Faulkner and his group are also pushing for an end to North Sea oil and gas drilling, citing environmental and humanitarian consequences.
Labour has conditionally stated that arms exports to Israel should be halted if it’s legally confirmed that international laws were violated, yet remains hesitant to endorse a full embargo without reviewing the legal advice. The stance comes as the government faces escalating calls to release its legal guidance following the recent attack in Gaza by the Israeli military which resulted in the deaths of seven aid World Central Kitchen humanitarian workers, including three Britons.
The paint-splattered scene at Labour’s central London office was accompanied by police presence, and Youth Demand reported that 11 of its activists were arrested following the incident.
Labour has declined to comment.
