Sky News’ Trevor Phillips Mocks ‘Fellow TV Presenter’ Lee Anderson Over MP ‘Side Hustle’ Suspension

Sky News host Trevor Phillips commiserated “fellow television presenter” Lee Anderson, who works for GB News, for on being suspended from his role as a Tory politician mockingly suggesting that he “should have stuck to the autocue.”

Anderson found himself in hot water and stripped of the Tory whip after his refusal to apologise for his controversial comments suggesting “Islamists” controlled London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Khan, alongside other senior politicians and Muslim advocacy groups, condemned the remarks as “Islamophobic and racist.”

On Sunday, Phillips, with a tone of irony, introduced his show by digging in on the Tory party’s chaos over the incident.

Phillips began his monologue: “My fellow television presenter Lee Anderson seems to have accepted that his side hustle as MP for Ashfield may be coming to an end after the Conservative Party suspended him yesterday.”

He added: “You should have stuck to the autocue, mate.”

Later on the show, Phillips interviewed Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden who said he didn’t think that Anderson didn’t intend to be Islamophobic but emphasised the importance of words and the consequences of refusing to acknowledge their impact.

“What he said was wrong and words matter,” Dowden told the host, explaining the decision to remove the whip from Anderson after his failure to apologise.
