‘Warzone’: Rishi Sunak Admits Failure As Piers Morgan Shares Mother’s 7-Hour Hospital Wait After Heart Attack

TalkTV host Piers Morgan pressed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the current state of the National Health Service (NHS) under his government in an exclusive interview Monday, describing how his elderly mother spent seven hours on a troller in a corridor after suffering a heart attack.

After the host read out statistics on treatment waiting lists, the prime minister admitted that he’d failed on his pledge, saying the blame on strikes by doctors and staff which had “had an impact.”

Morgan then shared 79-year-old Gabrielle Morgan’s ordeal in November when she was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, only to spend nearly seven hours on a trolley in a corridor with 35 to 40 other patients. The host said his sister, who attended with his mother, likened the scene to a “warzone.”

“She said old men were begging for bottles to urinate into,” he said, “others were crying in pain or discomfort. She said it was a scene out of a warzone. And she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.”
Morgan continued: “And she was also terrified, of course, having been told, ‘You’ve had a heart attack’, that no one was putting her into the unit and actually trying to fix her.”

Morgan explained how his mother was left terrified, fearing for her life as she lay unattended with a malfunctioning heart monitor and that her blood pressure remained dangerously unchecked for hours.

The host pulled out a picture of his mother.

“That’s mum, whose worked all her life, paid her taxes all her life. When she really needed the NHS, yes, eventually she the NHS came through, but she could have died on that trolley and I think that’s shocking.”

Sunak began: “Yes, that is a shocking story and I’m relieved that she’s feeling better now and that she got the treatment that she needed…”

“This was a Monday night, prime minister,” the host pressed. “This wasn’t even a weekend. It’s not even a major city, it’s Brighton, and there were forty-odd people in trolleys in a corridor.”

Left somewhat speechless by the story, Sunak listened to the strain on NHS resources and staff. Sunak pointed to the COVID-19 backlog and increased investment in the NHS, however, his comments did little to move Morgan, whose story represents the immediate concerns of those navigating the present healthcare landscape.

The full interview will be released on the Piers Morgan Uncensored YouTube channel at 2pm (GMT) and TalkTV at 8pm (GMT) on Monday.
