Wes Streeting Fumbles When Asked To Outline Labour’s Electoral Pledges Live On BBC
Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting fumbled on live television as he was unable to list party leader Keir Starmer’s key Labour pledges during an appearance on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
Facing off against Tory Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, Streeting was put to the test by BBC host Laura Kuenssberg, who challenged both politicians to recite their leaders’ pledges.
While Shapps swiftly named all five of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s promises, Streeting stumbled, much to the amusement of his Tory counterpart, managing only five out of Starmer’s six policies. Caught off guard, he sheepishly pulled out a prompt card.
“The annoying thing is, I was preparing for that question and I still fluffed it,” Streeting said, adding: “I might as well just go home now.”
The gaffe occurred just days after Starmer had outlined the pledges on Friday, May 17, detailing the central commitments to the Labour Party’s platform.
