A Possibly Tipsy Josh Earnest Razzes Trump on WHCD Red Carpet

earnestWhite House Press Secretary Josh Earnest seemed awfully chipper on the White House Correspondents Dinner red carpet tonight as he spoke with CNN’s Jeff Zeleny.

Which begs the question: on the one day of the year where the person speaking for the President of the United States can have fun, exactly how many drinks does he imbibe to offset rest of the year?

Whatever the case, Earnest was certainly in a pretty lighthearted mood when Zeleny asked him about Trump jokes. Earnest said, “After all we’ve been through over the course of the last year, it would not be the White House Correspondents Dinner if Mr. Trump ended up on the cutting room floor.”

Zeleny asked him how the WHCD would look if Trump was president, something others have a hard time imagining.

Earnest said with a smile, “He certainly looks good in a tux. He’d be comfortable up there.”

As for President Obama‘s infamous roast of Trump five years ago, Earnest said, “I don’t think there’s any denying the president got the better of that exchange.”
