CNN’s Nina Turner Battles Rick Santorum in Fiery Debate Over Missing Migrant Kids: ‘We’re Using Children as a Pawn?!’

A CNN panel got heated Sunday morning debating news that the federal government has lost track of nearly 1,500 immigrant children it had placed in the homes of sponsors.

“This is stunningly immoral and cruel,” said CNN political commentator Nina Turner. “Whoever started it, this president and this administration has the power to stop it.”

Turner proceeded to blast President Donald Trump‘s “cavalier attitude” on the issue — adding that she couldn’t imagine having a child “torn from my arms.”

But CNN contributor Rick Santorum assigned blame to the parents of these children.

“With all due respect, these parents are putting their children in peril by coming across the border,” Santorum said.

“They’re trying to escape peril,” host Dana Bash said.

“You don’t know their situation,” Santorum said. “Some may be. Some may just be an economic issue.”

“Senator, to me, that’s not the point anymore,” Turner fired back.

“It is the point,” the former Pennsylvania Senator replied.

“The point is that we have children’s lives at stake here,” Turner said.

“The parent’s are putting these kids’ lives in danger,” Santorum said.

The back-and-forth continued, as Turned argued that the U.S. has a moral obligation to the children, and Santorum argued that the moral obligation lies in deterring parents from illegally crossing the border.

“We’re using children as a pawn?!” said a visibly flabbergasted Turner. “That is heartless.”
