Iowa, New Hampshire Set to Air Very First Bernie Sanders Ad for $2 Million
While it’s clear that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has a solid second place position in the Democratic race for the nomination, there is no denying that frontrunner Hillary Clinton still holds a sizable lead. Real Clear Politics’ recent average puts Sanders at a 27%, compared to Clinton’s 48.8% after several strong weeks.
On Tuesday of this week, the first Bernie Sanders ad campaign is set to launch in the key voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire. Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver said in a statement, “This ad marks the next phase of this campaign. We’re bringing that message directly to the voters of Iowa and New Hampshire.”
The ad, called “Real Change” gives elements of the self-described Democratic-Socialist’s background that otherwise might not be known, including his upbringing in Brooklyn and his march alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963.
The ad continues, “In Congress, he stood up for working families and for principles, opposing the Iraq War, supporting Veterans — now he’s taking on Wall Street and a corrupt political system, funded by over a million contributions.” Sanders’ campaign is not funded by any Super PAC, but instead through small grassroots efforts.
The Iowa Caucus is tentatively schedule for February 1, 2016, with the New Hampshire Primary a week later on February 9.
