Rappers Run the Jewels Took Over BBC News to Discuss Ferguson

Rap duo Run The Jewels took over BBC News for a “Summer in the City” segment focusing on the first anniversary of Michael Brown‘s death in Ferguson, Missouri.

El-P and Killer Mike, the latter of which famously called rioting “the language of the unheard,” began the three-minute piece by calling themselves the “fantasy, utopian representation of race relations in the world.” The basis for this is their obvious ethnic differences, as El-P is white and Killer Mike is black.

In the midst of the prosecution’s decision not to indict then-officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Brown, Run The Jewels made their way to St. Louis to perform in the thick of the conflict. Video from the concert went viral, especially because of Killer Mike’s emotional words about his two sons.
