Yesterday Dana Perino suggested that President Obama‘s scheduled interview with Ryan Seacrest was just the White House giving him something to keep him occupied on election day. Considering Obama opened the interview by thanking Seacrest for “taking the time” one wonders if she wasn’t making a good point.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been a notably absent presence in this year’s midterms. While husband Bill has been stumping around the country, Clinton has kept almost entirely clear of this year’s Midterm circus, something she thinks President Obama may be a little green with envy over.

Back in September when Jon Stewart first announced his Rally to Restore Sanity Glenn Beck did not, shall we say, welcome the plan. Actually he accused Stewart of trying to “activate” America’s youth. Eventually he appeared to calm down about the whole rally craze, and has barely uttered a word about it since early last month. Until tonight.

President Obama is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to get out the vote for tomorrow’s Midterms. Or something. Tomorrow morning Obama will be interviewed by Ryan Seacrest on his Los Angeles-based radio show ‘On Air with Ryan Seacrest.’ Dana Perino told Megyn Kelly earlier today that she thought the decision to do the interview, on the day of the Midterms may be a sign the White House “is just mailing it in.

Good news. Jimmy McMillan, the New York gubernatorial candidate from the Rent Is Too Damn High party, who stole the show during last month’s debate, is releasing an album. Of course he is. The NYT has the audio.

Perhaps not surprisingly given all the subtle (and not so subtle) digs Sarah Palin has been sending the GOP establishment way, and hot on the heels of Frank Rich‘s speculation that a 2012 showdown is brewing between Palin and the “G.O.P. country club elites”, comes this Politico piece titled ‘Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Palin.’

If the country were to hold a fake presidential election at the moment between Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Stewart would be the runaway victor.

It seems media darling Jon Stewart‘s criticism of the media during yesterday’s rally has hit some nerves. This afternoon Chris Matthews sounded rather nonplussed over the idea that the media was to blame for the state of the country. Or that they should tone it down. Guest Arianna Huffington — who has lately designated herself protector of Stewart’s Sanity, in much the same way HuffPo functioned as Obama’s champion in 2007/08 — was quick to jump to Stewart’s defense.

Not surprisingly, and despite the “corrupt bastards”, yesterday’s Rally to Restore Sanity was a big topic of discussion on this morning’s Sunday shows. What does it all mean. On This Week George Will agreed there was nothing wrong with “a day out for civility and reason”…unless!

KTVA, the CBS affiliate whose reporters were recorded on an answering machine speculating about finding a child molester at a Joe Miller rally, has responded to Sarah Palin‘s claims that the tape is proof they are “corrupt bastards.” KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever has released a statement to Politico and says that while “the recording is real, the allegations are untrue.”

Last night’s SNL Weekend Update featured James Carville (Bill Hader) weighing in on the pluses and minuses of a Tea Party victory: “Crazy can be appealing, I’ve made a career out of it, but that doesn’t mean I should be elected to office.” Indeed.

Who has the most to lose from a Tea Party victory this Tuesday? Frank Rich thinks the Tea Partiers themselves might since they will immediately be confronted with the fact they have merely been puppets of the GOP establishment all along.

One lesson sure to be learned from this year’s midterms is that it’s important to make sure you have properly hung up your phone. Yesterday members of KTVA a CBS affiliate crew in Alaska were accidentally caught on a answering machine discussing finding negative stories about Joe Miller to cover in the final days of his campaign. Sarah Palin was not happy.

While most of the mainstream media went into overdrive yesterday to cover Jon Stewart‘s much-anticipated Rally to Restore Sanity MSNBC host Keith Olbermann was less than impressed. Apparently Stewart’s criticism of the cablesphere in particular rubbed Olbermann the wrong way.

The other day Media Matters founder David Brock called on Sarah Palin to publicly stand up against Glenn Beck‘s “erratic” so-called violence-inciting behavior. Today Palin called Beck’s radio show to discuss the “desperate” move.

Perhaps inspired by all the ‘bitch’-ing that’s been going on network TV these days courtesy of Joy Behar, Oprah Winfrey told the audience at Maria Shriver’s Women’s Conference in California yesterday that there will be no “tearing people down” on her new OWN network.

This will no doubt come as a total shock to anyone who’s been paying attention to this year’s crop of (frequently bizarre) campaign ads. Politifact — the non-partisan fact-checking group Jake Tapper charged with reviewing his This Week panels earlier this year — has reviewed candidates claims this year and concluded they are “barely true.”

Much the same way she tried to track down Christine O’Donnell earlier this month, and Joe Miller earlier this week, Rachel Maddow traveled to Las Vegas last night to see if she could score an interview with the equally media resistant Sharron Angle. Alas.

If you are one of the gazillion people planning on attending Jon Stewart‘s Rally to Restore Sanity this Saturday here’s what you can expect: Sheryl Crow. Also some other stuff. National Park Service, which has probably received more attention in the last two months than in the last 20 years combined – has made the Rally permit publicly available (i.e. read it over the phone to someone at CSM).

Apparently Chris Matthews is getting warmed up for next Tuesday’s live election coverage. Tonight while reflecting on the head-stomping incident at the Rand Paul event Matthews said that “this is the kind of stuff we saw from hoodlums in the thirties in another country I will not mention.” Three guesses history buffs!

Juan Williams did his regular ‘Wednesdays With Juan’ segment on Shep Smith‘s Studio B today. It was Williams first appearance on Shep’s show since his departure from NPR one week ago today. Interestingly, while Shep has gone on record both on his show and on yesterday’s View in support of Juan but nary a word was spoke today about NPR or Juan’s firing.
