President Obama Does Not Actually Count His Almonds Every Night
For many, a typical late night snack might be a handful of potato chips, or, on a worse night, an entire pint of secret ice cream. Not for President Obama. A few weeks ago a New York Times article came out about what he does while the rest of us are sleeping. He stays up late. Sometimes he’s reading or watching sports, but a lot of the time he’s working, answering e-mails or writing speeches. A lot of us focused on one habit in particular: his late night snack of “seven lightly salted almonds.” Obama’s former chef Sam Kass said “Michelle and I would always joke: Not six. Not eight…Always seven almonds.”
How…neurotic. Also, how boring. And healthy.
Today, the President appeared on Today with Savannah Guthrie. As it turns out, he doesn’t actually count his almonds every night, though he does say the issue has been “really weighing on him.”
He does, however, fully endorse almonds in general. “Almonds are a good snack. I strongly recommend them,” he said. When he leaves the White House, he said, he might really go wild and have 10 or 11 of them at a time. We’re glad we finally have clarity on this hot-button issue.
