4 Passengers, Conductor File Lawsuits Against Amtrak over Derailment

amtrakOne of the conductors and four of the passengers on board the derailed Amtrak train last week have filed lawsuits against Amtrak over the accident.

The conductor, Emilio Fonseca, has reportedly suffered serious injuries and trauma, and his lawsuit targets Amtrak for “negligence and carelessness” over the derailment.

Four passengers––identified as Felicidad Redondo Iban, Maria Jesus Redondo Iban, Daniel Armyn, and Amy Miller––also filed a lawsuit of their own, targeting both Amtrak and engineer Brandon Bostian.

According to Reuters, they are all seeking damages for their various injuries. One of the four apparently had to undergo multiple surgeries so that doctors wouldn’t have to amputate her arm.

The NTSB is currently investigating the Amtrak derailment and the possibility of a projectile hitting the train. The train was reportedly going over 100 miles per hour before it derailed.
