Allen West Officially Concedes House Race To Patrick Murphy
It has been two weeks since Election Day, and one of the few remaining races still in question was the Florida seat currently occupied by Allen West. West was very insistent on getting a recount, despite his margin of loss to Patrick Murphy being outside the range that would automatically trigger a recount. Yet, even after the votes were counted again, Murphy’s lead over West grew. And so, in a statement released today, West announced he is officially conceding the race.
West fell to roughly 1900 votes behind Murphy, and after two weeks of contesting the results, finally accepted that Murphy was the winner.
“We have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process. While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election.”
West outraised Murphy by a 4-to-1 margin in what was one of the most expensive House races in the country. With West’s defeat now official, there remains only one Congressional race undecided: North Carolina’s 7th district, where incumbent Mike McIntyre is facing a recount after a narrow victory over David Rouzer.
