Ben Carson: Criticism of Trump’s War Hero Comments Seems ‘Petty’

052214_kelly_carson_640Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said that the controversy over Donald Trump‘s remarks that Republican Senator John McCain wasn’t a war hero because he was captured seemed “petty” and overblown.

“For us to get caught up in a controversy of, well, ‘What did Donald Trump mean when he said that?’ — It just seems so petty to me,” Carson said to a group of reporters in Arlington, Virginia according to the Washington Post.

He added that he didn’t find the comments disqualifying. “I’m not sure from listening to what he said that he think that Mr. McCain is not a hero. He has repeatedly said yes, he is a hero, so I don’t know where that comes from that he’s disqualified.”

Earlier in the week, Carson hedged on whether or not he considered McCain a war hero, saying it “depends on your definition of a war hero.”
