Choose Glenn Beck’s New Book Cover

for real

Seriously. In a very 2.0 social, crowdsourcing move Glenn Beck, the new Oprah of book publishing, is holding a poll on his website asking fans (and other visitors) to choose their favorite cover for his upcoming novel ‘The Overton Window.’ Your choices below.

I suspect that number one will be what actually makes it to the bookshelves since it’s the least strange of the four. That said, number three is currently the office favorite, though I am unclear who that figure is supposed to be…perhaps a nod to Childhood’s End? Suggestions welcome. Update: see comments.

As a liberal, I think all covers actually are quite cool. I don’t know what they’re supposed to mean relating to the plot, but – graphically they’re pretty nice.

#3 is an updated version of The Colossus of Rhodes

I knew it was an ancient Greek thing!! My guess was a nod to ’300′, but I should have known Beck would go for something deeper (more random) than that.

Now, the most mysterious one to me is the last one, because why are there three Washington Monuments? Isn’t the point that no one honors Washington anymore? I guess the fact that in the first one the Lincoln Memorial is flooded is also baffling, but at least that could have an easy “the Russians nuked us with water bombs” explanation. My guess on the last one– which is my default guess for anything inexplicable and conspiratorial– is that it’s a Masonic thing. But who knows?

From Wiki on the Colossus: “The design, posture and dimensions of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor are based on what the Colossus was thought by engineers in the late 19th century to have looked like. There is a famous reference to the Colossus in the poem “The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus, written in 1883 and inscribed on a plaque located inside the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.”

Glynnis, take a look at Beck’s CPAC speech where he discusses the relationship between the Colossus of Rhodes and the Statue of Liberty.

Frances, on his radio show today Beck said that the three Washington Monuments have nothing at all to do with the story. In fact, he made fun of that one as “Washington Monument whack-a-mole.” He says that #1 is silly because the novel has nothing to do with water.

In number 4, the three Washington monuments paired with the reflection looks like a devil’s trident. They are also all a slight shade of red. Just sayin….

#1 looks like of a Tom Clancy novel
#2 looks like “the day after tomorrow” movie poster
#3 looks like “National Lampoon’s European Vacation” movie poster
#4 looks like another Tom Clancy novel

There is a rumor going around that Glenn is going to put PT Barnum on the cover and hope that the irony is lost on his customers…tea-baggers, naturally.

Glynnis, Beck is doing five nights in a row on the minutiae of balancing the federal budget. Don’t you think something of that much substance is worth a story? It doesn’t fit the “Beck is crazy” narrative, but doesn’t that fact unto itself make it interesting and newsworthy?

Glynnis, the woman who cleans my house thinks we ought to cut the wages and benefits of everyone in congress by half. Unlike Beck, she’s no grifter, just a great lady with some great ideas – how about a news story on her? By the way, she didn’t need 5 nights of bs; just a cigarette and a diet coke.

Is that LADY LIBERTY with a RIFLE?!1 Give her the face of MONICA CROWLEY and it’s the stuff True American Wet Dreams are MADE OF!!1

I voted for the one with a dead skunk in the road.

Good recall Anonymous! I have read a couple of Mr. Beck’s books. He is not Ayn Rand (yet) but a very good writer. I look forward to reading his latest work, and many more to come.

Karl, you should listen to Mr. Beck’s CPAC speech and tell us all the things you disagree with.

It’s pretty simple. #1 is the only one with a real sense of mystery, danger, portent, dread…did I say portent yet?
    It’s a thriller, right?
