Ex-Employee Files $5 Million Wrongful Termination Suit Against CNN

On the same day as which CNN announced it was cutting a good chunk of staff, the cable news network was hit with a $5 million wrongful termination suit filed by a Los Angeles-based field producer.

Stanley Wilson alleges in his suit that despite a seventeen-year tenure and work on numerous high-profile CNN projects, he was promoted only once and often passed over for less qualified white employees. The suit alleges Wilson’s boss in particular played an active role in the discrimination. Wilson said in the suit he complained numerous times to CNN about the problem.

Wilson was terminated earlier this year after a problem with a story that resulted in an article being pulled, which Wilson claimed was the “pretext” his boss needed to get rid of him. The suit names Wilson’s boss, as well as CNN and Turner Broadcasting.
