Glenn Beck Leaps To Palin’s Defense, Threatens To Boycott Random House

audio

This could turn into an interesting showdown. Glenn Beck leapt to fellow Fox News employee Sarah Palin‘s defense on his radio show today after her recent Facebook announcement that journalist Joe McGinniss had taken up residence next door to her Wasilla home.

Palin apparently sent Beck an email last night before posting the news on her Facebook telling him McGinniss’ presence was a “nightmare for our family.” Beck thinks McGinniss moving next door is the equivalent of stalking, is “really creepy” and that “Todd Palin should receive a medal for restraint.” Beck also issued this threat:

If you don’t get control of your authors I will never mention a Random House book ever again. And I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but I tend to sell books, not just my books, but books from other publishers.

This is true by the way. And if this turns into a larger fight between Glenn Beck and Random House, I suspect, the state of publishing being what it is (and the state of RH in particular, which is not good) McGinniss may find himself pressured to move on. Audio below.

Joe McGinniss- the same guy who had to payoff Jeffrey MacDonald , the guy who murdered his family, because of McGinniss’ betrayal.

“In an act of betrayal to MacDonald, McGinniss portrayed MacDonald as a drug-crazed maniac who murdered his family.MacDonald filed a civil suit against McGinniss that was settled out of court. McGinnis paid $325,000 to MacDonald.”

My sympathies would tend to be with the Palin neighbor, not the neighbor of the Palin neighbor.

Can you imagine the shouting, the fights, the smells, the babies being born at all hours of the night, the police constantly being summoned? Truant officers disturbing you while contacting investigations. Great clouds of hair spray wafting across your yard? Sheds blowing up?

And let’s not forget having Greta Van Susteren around all the time chasing Todd all over the place.

Pretty immature, King. But not surprising.

In all seriuosness, Random House, I predict, will do something about this. Love or Hate Beck, the literary world knows having his endorsment is huge nowadays. If he mentions a book, it skyrockets, those are just the facts.

Isn’t a boycott kind of silly? Should Random House control where the authors it publishes live?

    TRRK,

Being respectful comes to mind. Unless you just yearn for being disrespectful without any instigation from others or in a response from this thread. Who knows, being disrespectful may be your goal. In which you can’t complain about others being disrespectful to you. I know, you were being snarky, right?

Boycotts are how the public can express themselves. Case in point, the left has started MANY against Beck. Unfortunately for them, them don’t seen to have much impact.

I think the question is where does one person’s freedom ends and anothers begins. So you wouldn’t have a problem with someone writing a hit piece on you moving in next door and leering at you 24/7. i don’t think this is a question of him being allowed to do it, but rather the moral compass of the left that thinks it’s acceptable.

Now it’s a reflection of the moral compass of millions of people? That seems like a bit of a stretch, like saying John Ensign represents the entire moral compass of the right. It’s one person. If someone wants to live next to me, isn’t that their right? If I don’t like my neighbor, I can always move.

  • paulmdoro

If he is truly stalking her then she should call the police.

Ima give Glenn a call. My neighbor has a tree that is blocking the sun from my porch. He manages a Target store.
Hopefully Glenn can get a boycott going.

  • PureFreedom

    Michelle:
There was a boycott in a city in Texas from Hispanics against white owned business after a local Hispanic leader told them too over Immigration legislation. They claimed success. They were so proud because they showed they reduced revenue by 19%.
But the businesses then wrote “Yes they reduced our customers by 19% but our shoplifting was reduced by 87% and the money orders for out of the country was reduced by 98% and the cost of daily clean up and trash was reduced by 84%. So they made more money from the boycott….

Along with Shoppers were reported they could actually hear English spoken throughout the community. and the business purchases was with real money and not government debit cards or food stamps.

You raise a good question Paul, and I have come to realize that when it comes to Palin and the reactions to her, logic seems to fly out the window. In the posts of Michelle and INB, I think I can say, with complete validity, that they are giving Palin a deference due no one, absolving her of taste, judgment and accountability. However, I can also say that my response to Palin equally defies logic. I have not the slightest doubt that if she were to be seated next to me at a restaurant, I would ask to me moved, so offensive do I find her. There’s nothing logical to that, on either “side”.

Wow. I see the route, I suppose. Play stupid, and throw up your hands and say, “Gee, I didn’t know I was doing anything wrong.” Hmmm.

So you have no problem with someone of dubious record moving into a house next to a political figure, with the intention of watching them, and gathering material to write a (what is already known to be unflattering) book about them? You don’t see anything wrong with that? Nothing creepy or inappropriate? No invasion of privacy, or disrespect? Nothing you’d complain about to their employer?

Joe McGinniss living next to Sarah Palin by itself is not stalking. If he invades her privacy or other that can legally be investigated as stalking, then that’s stalking.

If Palin wants to file a complaint, she can. She hasn’t yet that I’m aware of. Is it creepy? Sure, probably. Did Joe McGinniss move next door to freak Palin out? Sure probably, but not illegal or stalking by itself.

Just as Beck can recommend not to mention (purchase) Random House books. If you think OK for Joe McGinniss to move in next door, then the same logic/acceptance should apply for Beck to threaten to boycott Random House.

I am pretty certain that if I were Todd, while I was with the chief of police, the mayor of Wasilla and my pastor, having dinner in a very public place, Mr McGinnis would probably get lost in the wild, to never be heard from again. It is really sad the way people can walk off in Alaska and just plain disappear.
But that is just me. I am kind of old fashioned about some old pervert moving in next door to lear at my wife, daughters, son and grand child.
