GOP Candidate for Congress Reveals She’s Been on a Spaceship With Aliens

A Republican candidate running to replace Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) in the House once claimed that she had an encounter with aliens on a spaceship.
Seriously.
The Miami Herald unearthed a television interview from 2009 in which Congressional candidate Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera claimed to have encountered extraterrestrials when she was 7 years old. She reportedly described (via the Herald) the one male and two female aliens she encountered as “blond, big-bodied beings.”
“I went in [to the spaceship],” Rodriguez Aguilera said in the 2009 interview. “There were some round seats that were there, and some quartz rocks that controlled the ship — not like airplanes.”
Rodriguez Aguilera further claimed, in 2009, that the aliens communicated with her telepathically several times after her initial close encounter.
In a statement she gave to the Herald, Rodriguez Aguilera did not totally distance herself from the aliens.
“For years people, including Presidents like Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter and astronauts have publicly claimed to have seen unidentified flying objects and scientists like Stephen Hawking and institutions like the Vatican have stated that there are billions of galaxies in the universe and we are probably not alone,” Rodriguez Aguilera said. “I personally am a Christian and have a strong belief in God, I join the majority of Americans who believe that there must be intelligent life in the billions of planets and galaxies in the universe.”
High-level political races often attract fringe candidates who make outlandish claims, but Rodriguez Aguilera has actually held elected office before. She once served on the Doral, FL city council, and she was also the city’s economic director and vice mayor.
