GOP Rep. Ted Yoho Is Also Challenging Boehner for Speakership

First Louie Gohmert threw his hat in the ring to challenge John Boehner for House speakership, now Florida Republican Ted Yoho is diving into the race too.

Yoho sent out an email this weekend, according to the Tampa Bay Times, saying he’s offering his name as “an alternative” to Boehner. More conservative Republicans view Boehner as too much of an establishment-type that won’t stand firm on principle and will instead cave to what the Democrats and President Obama want.

Yoho touts how his first-ever vote in Congress, two years ago this month, was in opposition to reelecting Boehner as Speaker of the House. He explains, “It was not a personal attack, but the representation of the voice of a frustrated nation. I believed we needed stronger leadership then, and two years later, I still believe that today.”

And here’s why Yoho feels now is the time for new leadership:

“The American people have given us this moment in time to fight back against President Obama’s failed policies. We cannot, nor should not, squander it.”

Some Republicans have already indicated their opposition to reelecting Boehner (though he’s expected to be comfortably reelected tomorrow), and one of Boehner’s allies has scolded Gohmert and Yoho for their “unprofessional” demeanor.
