Lena Dunham Bashes Gawker for ‘Cruel and Unnecessary Stories’

Comedienne Lena Dunham took to Twitter Friday to lash out at Gawker for constantly publishing what she called “cruel and unnecessary stories.”

Dunham’s tweet comes after a much-maligned Gawker story alleging that David Geithner, Condé Nast CFO and brother of former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner tried to hire a gay porn star. Even senior writer at Gawker Adam Weinstein openly criticized his employer for running the story, which supposedly outed a married man:

It’s worth noting that Dunham has her own personal reasons for disliking Gawker. The site once published Dunham’s $3.7 million book proposal, complete with mocking commentary on the book’s vapidity. It also revealed that the accused rapist in Dunham’s original book treatment was not a Republican, as she claimed in the final product.
